Ken Wakui Tokyo Revengers is Headed The Climax Its Final

This year’s 46th issue of Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine revealed on Wednesday that Ken Wakui’s Tokyo Revengers manga is headed toward the climax of its final arc with its next chapter in the magazine’s next issue on October 19.

The manga entered its final arc in June 2021. Wakui launched the Tokyo Revengers manga in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in March 2017. Kodansha published the manga’s 29th compiled book volume on August 17, and it will publish the 30th volume on November 17.

Kodansha USA Publishing is publishing the manga in English, and it describes the story: Watching the news, Takemichi Hanagaki learns that his girlfriend from way back in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, has died. The only girlfriend he ever had was just killed by a villainous group known as the Tokyo Manji Gang. He lives in a crappy apartment with thin walls, and his six-years-younger boss treats him like an idiot. Plus, he’s a complete and total virgin … At the height of his rock-bottom life, he suddenly time-leaps twelve years back to his middle school days!! To save Hinata, and change the life he spent running away, hopeless part-timer Takemichi must aim for the top of Kanto’s most sinister delinquent gang!!

The manga’s television anime adaptation premiered in April 2021. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. The anime’s “Seiya Kessen” (“Christmas Showdown”) arc premieres next January. The manga inspired a live-action film that opened in July 2021. The film was slated to open in Japan in October 2020, but was delayed to 2021 due to the effects of the spread of COVID-19 in Japan. There will be a sequel live-action film.

Shueisha is simulpublishing the manga in English on its MANGA Plus service. Viz Media added the manga to its app as part of its Shonen Jump subscription in September 2019. The company is also publishing the manga in print. The fourth series premiered on NHK General in April. Crunchyroll has been streaming the anime as it airs.

The first television anime adaptation premiered in 2012, and a second series premiered in 2013. Funimation streamed both series in North America and released both anime series on DVD in 2016. The third anime series premiered in April 2020. The show went on hiatus after four episodes due to COVID-19, but then resumed airing in April 2021. The anime restarted its airing from the first episode. Funimation streamed the anime as it aired in Japan.

Yasuhisa Hara’s historical manga centers around the slave boy Xin and his dream of becoming a great general for the state of Qin. Xin helps Ying Zheng, the young Qin king who shares his desire to unify China, rise to power within the state. Xin does all he can to become a superior commander of an army capable of defeating the Seven Warring States. The film’s staff revealed a visual featuring Asta (pictured at right) in March 2021, and then revealed a visual of Yuno last December.

The manga’s anime adaptation premiered in Japan in October 2017. The show was originally listed with 51 episodes, but it continued into a new season with episode 52 in October 2018, and continued on again into a new season in October 2019. The show went on hiatus starting in April 2020 due to COVID-19, and resumed in July 2020 with episode 133. The show aired its 170th and final episode in March 2021.

Crunchyroll streamed the series in Japanese with English subtitles, and Funimation streamed the show’s English dub. The anime debuted on Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block in December 2017. Tabata launched Black Clover in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2015. Viz Media is publishing the manga digitally and in print, and Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service is also publishing the manga digitally. The manga had more than 15 million copies in circulation worldwide as of May 2021.

The manga went on hiatus for a planned three months in late April so that Tabata could prepare for the “final arc” of the manga (the wording used could also be translated as “final saga”). The manga resumed on August 1.
